Ebooks vs Print Books: Which should you get for your kid?

Print books and ebooks
Ebooks are digitally made books with content just like print books which are now starting to gain popularity even though people buy print books more than ebooks. Ebooks come in different forms and formats like epub , mobi, pdf's and others. Unlike printed books which you can hold and actually feel it, ebooks are only seen on your device and only your device.

But the big question is; should you acquire an ebook version or a print book for your child? Well both have their pros and cons.

First lets look at print books

Pros
Print books actually feel like you have something in your possession and your money has actually been made good use of.

Kids like to show of a new book they have.

Cons

Print books can be easily torn apart by little children.

Once a page gets missing, it becomes difficult to make out the real meaning of the book.

Print books can be really expensive.

Now lets take a look at some pros and cons of ebooks.

Pros

Ebooks are cheap and sometimes you can get them for free

They are durable so long as you device remains virus free and out of danger.

Cons

The device parts can be easily destroyed by kids such as the screen.

Some devices require charging before use and this would be a disadvantage to kids when device is taken to school,

Final Verdict.

While both print books and ebooks have their pros and cons, I think getting an ebook for your kid would be the smartest thing to do.

Why?

Because in this modern era, cheap is the best. Why spend so much on print books when you can get the same value with ebooks. Ebooks tablets now come with hard screens and there are good protective covers and screen protectors you can buy for it.

Everything is going digital of late so start introducing your kid to ebooks today.

A Review of Kaleidoscope by Mindy Hayes

EBOOK NAME: KALEIDOSCOPE (A FAYLINN NOVEL 1)
WRITTEN BY: MINDY HAYES
PAGES: 323
PUBLISHED ON: DECEMBER 28, 2013.
GENRE: YOUNG ADULT, FANTASY
FIRST BOOK OUT OF THREE SERIES.

Okay, here's my review.

First of, I want to tell you the ebook is really really good (this is for those looking for something to urge them on to read the book). Its great for both young adults and children from eight onwards. Anyone within this age range would love this book!

For those who want something much more deeper, let me show you why and how I say this ebook is really something worth reading.

I personally wasn't a fan of Mindy Hayes and never read any of her ebooks until I stumbled upon Kaleidoscope and I was hooked.

Considering the cover and illustration on ebook;
The design of the book was one of the thing that caught my attention. The ebook's cover says it all. Unlike other ebooks which have nicely designed covers but with ugly and annoying content, Kaleidoscope is so different.

The design of the cover actually made me get the impression that I was in for fantasy. The setting of green woods and with spikes on entangled branches gives you that fanasy expectation.

The Prologue and Synopsis;

The prologue of the story doesn't actually do a good job telling you what the story is about but its a good thing Mindy Hayes did putting it there. I really enjoyed reading it. The way and manner the its craftily written makes you actually want to read on and on.

Here is the synopsis of the book;
“Was I still a human? Gosh, I still wanted to be human. Even just to keep a sliver of who I thought I was. But as I thought about being human, standing in the shade of the forest, I felt less human than ever. The trees fought for my allegiance."

It starts in her chest. The change Calliope doesn't see coming. It pulses like a second heartbeat, urging her to give in to the need to be in the depths of the forest. She's compelled to fight the pull, but the more she denies it the stronger it becomes until she finally surrenders and is pulled into a secret world of enchantment.

Kai and Declan need her to accept what she is, but with everything left unsaid, acceptance may be the least of their worries. Knowing their fate lies in her hands, they’ll stop at nothing to protect and prepare her for what lies ahead.

Will Calliope be able to accept what Kai and Declan reveal or will her desire to be normal keep her from acknowledging her true destiny?

The sample above is the synopsis and to tell the truth, after I read it, I had the impression that the story was going to about just some fantasy. As I read on, this impression of mine was disproved and I realised the story had some 'crushy' young love story in it. Ever read 'The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes?' Well, just like Abby, Callipoe (The main character of the story) also had an unrequited crush on someone but this time, unlike Abby, Callipoe has a crush on her childhood friend who sits just in front of her in class!

I enjoyed every bit of this book from the first word to the last sentence; Callipoe and her friends Kai and Dan and family and the way she came to know of her fate and path she has to take.

This book is written in such a way that you can actually visualise what the author is trying to put across. I've always loved reading fantasy and the author of this book makes this unknown world somehow come to life with kaleidoscope.

THE NEXT BOOKS PRODUCED BY THE AUTHOR WERE NOW ON MY WISHLIST EVEN BEFORE I FINISHED READING KALEIDOSCOPE.

Free Kindle Ebook

GET IT NOW

I'm not who they think I am. A docile girl who meekly obeys her stepmother and stepsisters. Some kind of sick angel who cheerfully bears their mistreatment. That's what I WANT them to think. Because then they won't suspect what I'm really up to.
The ball, the prince - it's all part of my plan to come out on top. Stepmother and her demented daughters will pay for every floor I have scoured, every sneer I have borne. They don't know about the white magic, how I use it to enhance myself. They can't see that my heart is black as midnight, rotten as a poisoned apple.
They're about to find out.

Why I Prefer Blogger to Wordpress

As a new blogger, I was introduced to many blogging platforms such as weebly, joomla, wordpress, blogger and the like with blogger and wordpress being the names I saw most.

Wordpress is a blogging platform which assures you either two things: A free blog which works like blogger (wordpress.com) and a paid one (wordpress.org).

1.  Paid Platforms
With wordpress.org you pay for the platform unlike blogger and wordpress.com.  When I started blogging I did not know much about it and was just testing. I couldn’t just put in money and so I did away with worpress.org.

As I grew with blogger and thought that I had learnt enough, I tried wordpress both (.org and .com).

2.  Paid Hosting
With wordpress.org you pay for hosting every month if you want to host it and not use wordpress as a subdomain name but with blogger it’s somehow free. You just pay yearly at a low cost for hosting if you don’t use blogger subdomain name.

3.  Paid theme and plugins
Also, with wordpress.org, you buy themes and plugins whiles you get them for free on blogger. These themes can be quite costly. It can cost about

4.  Blogger also works just like wordpress.com. That’s what many say even though there are differences.
In wordpress.com you can’t post affiliate links or adverts there, your account will be deleted immediately but with blogger you can.

In all I still stuck to blogger so instead of paying about    including hosting, I get a blog almost for free.

Even though I know it is said that hosting your blog with blogger can be somehow risky because google can decide to terminate that service at any time as they say “it just stops things that everyone is happily using”.

I still don’t think google will do so and even if it’s going to do such a thing, it will alert the users before undertaking any project.

You just have to back up your blog on your device so that if anything like that occurs you will still have your blog.

That all. I hope you enjoyed the post. I prefer blogger, maybe you are still with wordpress. It’s your choice. Just choose wisely.

What are blogs?

What are blogs?

Blogs work similar in a way that websites do. They are simple and can be used to talk about a whole lot of stuff but mostly blogs are small websites that are mostly connected to big websites or the main websites. They contain more details and information about a product or service in the main websites. Blogs can also be made on their own as the main website.

How do I create a blog?
It sure takes a lot of time to create a blog but if you take your time to do it well, you will end up with what you get. I see blog creating as a hobby. Blogs can earn you money if you take your time and do it well. See: How to earn money blogging.

In order to start creating a blog you need to get a blogging platform. The following are top blogging platforms not arranged in order of priority.

1. Blogger (Read more about blogger)
2. Wordpress (Read more about wordpress)
3. Tumblr
4. Weebly
5. Ghost

These blogging platforms will give you a whole lots of themes to choose to start creating your blog. With wordpress.org one must buy the theme to begin.

Some blogging platforms require money to start and others do not.  For the free ones you just have to buy a domain. An example is Blogger. A domain can cost no more than $50 and it is paid yearly.

The following are some sites you can buy a domain from:
1.     GoDaddy.com
2.    Namecheap
3.    Gandi
4.    Name.com
5.    1&1

Some blogging platforms also require you to pay for hosting and domain. An example is wordpress.org
The following are some sites you can buy hosting plans: Source:
1.      Godaddy.com
  1. Biz.nf (PHP, MySQL, WordPress, Joomla, Free .co.nf domain, No ads)
