A Review of Kaleidoscope by Mindy Hayes

WRITTEN BY: MINDY HAYES

PUBLISHED ON: DECEMBER 28, 2013.
GENRE: YOUNG ADULT, FANTASY
FIRST BOOK OUT OF THREE SERIES.

Okay, here's my review.

First of, I want to tell you the ebook is really really good (this is for those looking for something to urge them on to read the book). Its great for both young adults and children from eight onwards. Anyone within this age range would love this book!

For those who want something much more deeper, let me show you why and how I say this ebook is really something worth reading.

I personally wasn't a fan of Mindy Hayes and never read any of her ebooks until I stumbled upon Kaleidoscope and I was hooked.

Considering the cover and illustration on ebook;
The design of the book was one of the thing that caught my attention. The ebook's cover says it all. Unlike other ebooks which have nicely designed covers but with ugly and annoying content, Kaleidoscope is so different.

The design of the cover actually made me get the impression that I was in for fantasy. The setting of green woods and with spikes on entangled branches gives you that fanasy expectation.

The Prologue and Synopsis;

The prologue of the story doesn't actually do a good job telling you what the story is about but its a good thing Mindy Hayes did putting it there. I really enjoyed reading it. The way and manner the its craftily written makes you actually want to read on and on.

Here is the synopsis of the book;
“Was I still a human? Gosh, I still wanted to be human. Even just to keep a sliver of who I thought I was. But as I thought about being human, standing in the shade of the forest, I felt less human than ever. The trees fought for my allegiance."

It starts in her chest. The change Calliope doesn't see coming. It pulses like a second heartbeat, urging her to give in to the need to be in the depths of the forest. She's compelled to fight the pull, but the more she denies it the stronger it becomes until she finally surrenders and is pulled into a secret world of enchantment.

Kai and Declan need her to accept what she is, but with everything left unsaid, acceptance may be the least of their worries. Knowing their fate lies in her hands, they’ll stop at nothing to protect and prepare her for what lies ahead.

Will Calliope be able to accept what Kai and Declan reveal or will her desire to be normal keep her from acknowledging her true destiny?

The sample above is the synopsis and to tell the truth, after I read it, I had the impression that the story was going to about just some fantasy. As I read on, this impression of mine was disproved and I realised the story had some 'crushy' young love story in it. Ever read 'The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes?' Well, just like Abby, Callipoe (The main character of the story) also had an unrequited crush on someone but this time, unlike Abby, Callipoe has a crush on her childhood friend who sits just in front of her in class!

I enjoyed every bit of this book from the first word to the last sentence; Callipoe and her friends Kai and Dan and family and the way she came to know of her fate and path she has to take.

This book is written in such a way that you can actually visualise what the author is trying to put across. I've always loved reading fantasy and the author of this book makes this unknown world somehow come to life with kaleidoscope.

THE NEXT BOOKS PRODUCED BY THE AUTHOR WERE NOW ON MY WISHLIST EVEN BEFORE I FINISHED READING KALEIDOSCOPE.
